The Bierzo is an old, historic wine-growing region in northeastern Spain, but has fallen into oblivion in recent decades. At the end of the nineties, Alvaro Palacios began to wonder when he founded his Bodegas Descendientes de J. Palacios and produced individual, varietal wines from the indigenous grape variety Mencia. In addition to the wine "Bierzo" and the Corullon, there are now the three very scarce (about 1000 Fl.) Single-layer wines Las Lamas, San Martin and La Faraona, so that the fragrance brand is already set in Bierzo.
A challenge for Mariano García, who is represented in the Ribera del Duero and in Toro with numerous top wines. With the commitment in Bierzo Mariano wants to prove the potential of the indigenous grape variety Mencia. In the year 2000 one started with the purchase or the lease of the optimal parcels. First vinified in the cellars of the friendly Bodega Luna Biberide, the wine will be produced from 2006 in their own bodega. The Paixar 2001 and the following year 2002 are powerful, single - variety Mencia wines that are among the best in the region today.
